Like you become anything else: The formula for becoming anything necessitates attention and practice.
The word “psychic” comes from “psyche,” which traditionally means, “pertaining to the soul or mind.” Most of us are fortunate enough to possess these traits, so by my estimation, everyone contains the seeds to be “psychic.”
As I see it, it seems that the number one impediment to accessing what we could loosely call, “psychic awareness,” is the aversion of it. Mainstream cultural notions tends to promulgate psychics as people who have superpowers, or people who are outright charlatans. There’s the notion of “giftedness,” or what I like to call, “snowflake syndrome.” So those of us who might even be remotely interested in exploring psychic awareness might feel it to be impossible because they recognize that they are not a unique snowflake, or that they might make themselves some kind of pariah, and perhaps also being afraid of the experience that awareness brings unto itself.
In my mind, the truth is like any other human expression. Some people are naturally talented in fields like the arts, sciences, human relations, and so forth. But just because it may take less effort for a talented individual to reach the laurels of proficiency doesn’t imply that one without talent can’t reach mastery.
That all said, we can get into some specifics.
- Dispel your fear. This is probably one of the biggest elements that can be a block from accessing this field of perception. You have to be flexible and open to acting upon what you receive. If you don’t want to change, if you are afraid of what you might sense or perceive, then aspects of your mind will shelter you from the experience. Simply put, fear creates ignorance.
- Believe. Truthfully I don’t like telling anyone to believe anything. But you asked how to be a psychic, and like anything else that you ever hope to achieve, you have to believe in both yourself and the process. It is one thing to be skeptical and to question what may occur, it is another thing to discredit the process completely — in doing that, you block yourself.
- Pay attention. In my humble opinion, the awareness starts from within. Pay attention to your thoughts and how they make you feel in both a physical & emotional sense. Ask yourself hard questions. Whenever you feel confused, try to bring yourself higher in perspective to see yourself and your circumstances. Take time to quiet your mind and to just listen. More on this in a second.
- Listen! You are communicating to yourself all the time. Day dreams, sleeping dreams, thought patterns, internal conversations, even how you act is a communication with your own self. Take time to sit, to be quiet, to put your attention not on speaking, but on listening without passing judgment. In social situations, take some real time to listen, to pay attention, to read between the lines of people’s speech and body language. Once again, without passing judgment! Take notice.
- Play! There are a lot of ways you can play with your own mind. Take journeys, try and use your physical senses within your own imagination from a first-person perspective. Play with energy in your body (Energy Work by Robert Bruce is a pretty good read for this). All of this serves to extend your senses.
