Morever, Validation, primarily. You need to be able to repeat the action (or sensing) several times, and have the results validated by other people who have ability. Being able to repeat it at will is the best way to ensure that it isn't merely coincidence. And validation will rule out hallucination. Be sure to do research, as well, so you aren't falling prey to mistaking a normal physical phenomenon for a psychic one.
