Firstly, Science is a study of the unknown and while a lot more is speculated (or known) about the spiritual world by spiritual people, it's best to keep your personal beliefs out of the workplace. This goes for not talking about your religion, your vasectomy or any other areas in your life that you hold dear. There are just some things you may not want to share. People will always be judgmental. The choice, at the end of the day, is yours. If you are a scientist studying the science of psychic phenomenon then a belief in that would help you. If not, it's just not relevant.
Additionally, Most people pursue a career in science through a compelling desire to explore and know the truths about the natural world. The job of science, and scientists as employed professionals, is to find answers to the great questions of how the universe works. Therefore it doesn't make much sense to believe that a scientist who has made the investment in effort, time and money in their education and work to research the nature of reality that they may hold something back if their evidence for something new is compelling. They are likely to hold off publishing a paper on the psychic phenomena until they have sufficient empirical evidence to prove their views. But otherwise I would imagine that they would be excited by the prospect of proving a new phenomena in nature. So most respectable scientists would not likely keep secrets which are important to our understanding of the natural world. It is their purpose in life and career to reveal such secrets.
Generally, in my opinion, I can only speak to part of this but if I was pursuing a career in a scientific field I'd likely keep my skills to myself while also using spare time and resources to find a way to validate my skills. In all honesty one of the recurring conversation topics among myself and acquaintances is a frustration with trying to do valid research on psychic abilities or phenomena. Not only are few people willing to step forward and subject themselves to any sort of examination or study but those who are often find themselves lacking anyone willing to actually DO a serious study.
It's something that's mildly aggravating in my opinion- in order to do a proper study for most people professing psychic abilities you can't simply do a one time examination have them show up say "Show us what you can do" and then be done with it. It's something that would have to be examined over time- what sort of impact does it have on the person? is it a constant factor or an intermittent one? do they have conscious control or is it an automatic function of the mind like with psychic empathy and precognition?
Say you do find someone willing to research it- they would have to find funding for their research which requires proving to someone that it could be beneficial- something most people are skeptical about and others will probably laugh the researcher out of the room for before they finish the first sentence.
